A USMS member for nearly 50 years, Bob became an open water event director in the early 1990’s. He organized and directed more than 25 USMS open water swims, mostly in the Atlantic Ocean. Several were LMSC, Zone, and National Championship events. His leadership led to the 2001 USMS 1 Mile Open Water Championship at Point Lookout, Long Island, NY, which was a first in the New York Area. For his efforts, he received an award from Nassau County acknowledging his significant contributions.

Bob conducted countless open water swim clinics. Described as a lifeguard for life, he demanded that safety came first in all aquatic activities. He served as his LMSC’s Chair, the Safety and Open Water Committee Chair, and on the Insurance Committee. He also served on the USMS Open Water and Safety Education National committees.
