Bob was described as "an incredible leader" in Masters Swimming in the New York area. When coaching a high school team, he invited adults to join the workouts, establishing one of the first Masters teams in the area. He organized the first LMSC Swimmers and Coaches Clinic and began serving as the Metropolitan LMSC’s President in 1996. Bob united USMS with the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in an effort to bring a USMS Long Distance National Championship to the east coast.
