A long-time volunteer of the Pacific LMSC, Joel Wilson’s contributions helped U.S. Masters Swimming grow and prosper. As a coach, he helped found a large U.S. Masters Swimming program, Santa Cruz Masters Aquatics (CRUZ). Joel ran nearly all of the Pacific LMSC’s LCM Championship meets, which usually took place on the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) campus. He created the Cruz Cruise, which was originally a 5-mile cold ocean swim and later evolved into a 2-mile event. Joel was an active voice in the community for aquatic issues and concerns, and he provided the Pacific LMSC with great leadership in meet operations and open water swimming.
